How can I secure my TON Wallet
Since your TON Wallet is accessed via your Telegram account, we recommend setting two-step verification to login and passcode to access chats.
All this can be done in the Telegram settings in the Privacy and Security section.
Now, you can turn on the passcode for your TON Wallet, as a way to enhance the security of your wallet.
What is a TON Wallet passcode, and how does it work
A TON Wallet passcode is a 4 or 6-digit code that you create yourselves. It needs to be set as an additional security measure, serving as a part of two-factor authentication when performing operations in the TON Wallet. TON Wallet will ask for the passcode during token withdrawals, swaps, deposits made to DeFi protocols, as well as when viewing the Secret Recovery Phrase, connecting to third-party apps via TON Connect, and performing some other operations.
In case anyone gets access to your TON Wallet and tries to withdraw the funds, the set passcode will serve as an additional security measure.
Note: The passcode does not provide access to the funds in your non-custodial wallet in TON Wallet or through other third-party interfaces if you lose your device or access to your Telegram account. We strongly recommend storing your Secret Recovery Phrase in a safe place — it is the only way to restore access to your wallet on the TON blockchain and your funds.
Earlier I set up a passcode in my Crypto Wallet. Do I need to set up another one in my TON Wallet
If you already have a passcode enabled in your Crypto Wallet, the same password will also be active for your TON Wallet — no need to create a new one.
How to set up a passcode in TON Wallet
When creating a TON Wallet, the system will ask you to set a passcode if you haven’t already enabled one in the Crypto Wallet. This is a mandatory step designed to ensure the security of your TON Wallet.
To set a passcode:
- Tap ‘Enable Passcode’ when creating your TON Wallet.
- Set a 4 or 6-digit passcode.
- Confirm the passcode.
- Enter and confirm your email address. This address will be used to reset your passcode in case you forget it.
- Enable biometric authentication to approve actions in the TON Wallet instead of using the passcode.
Note: your TON Wallet passcode should not be the same as your Telegram account passcode, nor should it be as your 2-step verification code. This is essential for the additional security of your assets.
What is biometric authentication
This is an alternative way to protect your TON Wallet. Biometric authentication helps authorize actions in TON Wallet via Face ID (on iOS devices) or Touch ID (on Android devices) without using the passcode. Thus, to set it up, you need to turn on the passcode first.
You can turn on biometrics in the corresponding section of TON Wallet settings.
Can I use both a passcode and biometrics at the same time
Yes, you can. If Biometrics are enabled, you will use this feature instead of passcode in most cases. At the same time, passcode remains as a way of authentication when you face issues with your biometrics check. Also, it is important to note that you will need to enter the passcode before you can enable biometrics separately in your TON Wallet settings.
Why am I getting an error when I try enabling biometrics for TON Wallet
You have probably restricted biometrics permissions to Telegram. To turn on biometrics in TON Wallet, you need to allow Telegram to access your biometrics, and then to try binding it again.
What happens to biometric authentication if I log into the TON Wallet from another device
If you log in to TON Wallet from a new device, you will need to enable biometrics on it once more. To do this, you need to input your passcode once again.
Unlike biometrics, your passcode is a multi-device instrument and can be used across various devices.
Where are biometrics stored
Your biometrics are stored only on your device.
I forgot my passcode. How can I restore it
To restore the passcode, click on ‘Forgot Your Passcode’ button. We will send you a code to the email that you connected earlier. Enter this code to reset the old passcode.
If needed, you can change or turn off the passcode at any time via Settings.
How do I change the connected email in TON Wallet
In the Passcode settings tab, choose the ‘Change Recovery Email’ option. It is possible to change only if you have access to previously connected e-mail. This is because you will receive a code to your e-mail, to authorize the data change.
I forgot my passcode and lost access to my email
It is important that you connect only the e-mail address to which you have access. If you lost access to your email, contact your email service provider’s support to recover access.
